Motorbikes to Mangawhai
Over 50 bikes of all sizes and types enjoyed a run up north to Mangawhai on a fine and sunny Sunday 1st November. The beautifully cleaned and
shiny bikes ranging in size from 250cc to 2,200cc were quite a sight parked outside ENZED’s South Auckland shop. Just about every brand
of motorbike on the New Zealand market was represented, with the Hog owners probably dominating the show, but some very impressive
Triumph’s, Suzuki’s and Ducati’s added to the sound and colour.
Leaving at 10.00am the men and women (and some younger pillions) cruised up to the first stop at Puhoi. It made for quite an impressive sound
as the bikes made their way en-mass through the new Johnstone’s Hill Tunnel. Most toured on up to Kaiwaka, taking a break at the Three Furlongs
Hotel, while others headed to the Mangawhai Hotel, before everyone met up for a barbeque and refreshments at a large property that backed onto the
Mangawhai Estuary.
While enjoying the convivial atmosphere and chatting over refreshments, some motorbike riders swapped horsepower for leg-power and competed in
some head to head races on mountain bikes. There was usually a bit of jostling at the turnaround mark, but no injuries were sustained and a few
prizes were handed out.
A big thank you to all participants and we will be planning another ride, probably in February. If you were registered on this ride, you will be receiving an invitation in due course, if you would like to join us, please send us your name and contact details.
